THE ROOFERS WHO CALL YOU BACK

Roof replacement and repair in Affton

Affton is block after block of post-war brick bungalows and ranches. Their roofs are simple, but many are shallow enough that the permit question matters.

Affton roofs

  • Many homes date from the 1940s and 1950s: brick walls, a simple gable or hip roof, and small attics with little ventilation.
  • Some ranches and rear additions sit below a 4:12 pitch. That changes both the materials we can use and, under the county's rule, whether a permit is needed.
  • Brick chimneys on these houses often need new step and counter flashing at replacement time.

Affton questions

Does a re-roof here need a St. Louis County permit?
Affton is unincorporated, so St. Louis County enforces the residential code. Its own re-roofing guide says a like-for-like asphalt-shingle replacement on a roof sloped 4:12 or steeper needs no building permit; one is required when the slope is under 4:12, when more than a quarter of the sheathing is replaced, or when the covering changes material.
My back addition is nearly flat. Can it get shingles?
Shingles need enough slope to shed water. A nearly flat section gets a low-slope membrane instead, and we price it separately so you can compare.
Do you pull the permits?
Yes. We pull the permit on every job that requires one. Which office issues it depends on the city or county, and the service-area pages show it wherever we have the official answer.
Can you help with my insurance claim?
We document storm damage and write a roofing estimate you can give your insurer. We are roofers, not insurance adjusters: we do not decide your claim or speak for your insurer.
