THE ROOFERS WHO CALL YOU BACK

Roof replacement and repair in Lemay

Some of the oldest houses in south county are in Lemay. On an older roof, what is under the shingles matters as much as the shingles.

Lemay roofs

  • Many homes are early- and mid-20th-century frame and brick houses, some with plank decking rather than plywood.
  • Plank decking with gaps can need new sheathing before shingles go on; we look from the attic during the inspection so it is in the estimate, not a surprise.
  • Older frame houses often have worn wood siding and trim beside the roof line, which is easiest to address while the roof is open.

Lemay questions

Does a re-roof here need a St. Louis County permit?
Lemay is unincorporated, so St. Louis County enforces the residential code. Its own re-roofing guide says a like-for-like asphalt-shingle replacement on a roof sloped 4:12 or steeper needs no building permit; one is required when the slope is under 4:12, when more than a quarter of the sheathing is replaced, or when the covering changes material.
Will I need new decking?
Possibly, on an older house. If more than a quarter of the sheathing has to be replaced, the county rule above also calls for a permit; we tell you which applies before work starts.
Do you pull the permits?
Yes. We pull the permit on every job that requires one. Which office issues it depends on the city or county, and the service-area pages show it wherever we have the official answer.
